Why do we belong to Surfside Beach Rotary? Here are a few reasons.
1. Friendship: In an increasingly complex world, Rotary provides one of the most basic human needs: the need for friendship and fellowship
2. Business Development: The second original reason for Rotary is business development. Everyone needs to network. Our club consists of a cross section of our business community. Rotarians help each other and collectively help others.
3. Citizenship in the Community: Membership in a Rotary club makes one a better community citizen. The average Rotary club consists of the most active citizens of any community.
4. Fun: Rotary is fun, a lot of fun. Each meeting is fun. Those jokes I tell are a riot! And Murray’s and Scott’s aren’t bad either. The club projects are fun. Social activities like the one this Thursday at Anne’s house are fun. The service is fun.
5. Citizenship in the World: Every Rotarian is welcome – even encouraged – to attend any of the 29,000 clubs in 194 nations and geographical regions. This means instant friends in both one’s own community and in the world community.
6. Prestige: Surfside Rotarians are prominent people: leaders of business, the professions, art, government, sports, military, religion, and all disciplines.
7. Nice People: You guys above all are nice people - the nicest people on the face of the earth as far as I’m concerned. You are important people who follow the policy of it is nice to be important but it is important to be nice.
8. The Absence of an “Official Creed”: Rotary has no secret handshake, no secret policy, no official creed, no secret meeting or rituals. We are an open society of men and women who simply believe in helping others.
9. The Opportunity to Serve: Rotary is a service club. Its business is mankind. Its product is service. We provide community service to both local and international communities. This is perhaps the best reason for keeping our club strong.
10. Finally: You make Rotary stronger by adding your skills, experience, and enthusiasm to our club. Your participation advances our community here at home and on a global scale. Together, we can eradicate polio, train more skilled peacemakers, build Habitat houses, and provide lasting solutions for our community, fighting disease, hunger, illiteracy, and poverty. Remember: “He profits most who serves best.”
Hope you can join us at our next meeting. And hey! Lunch is on me visitors, guests, and friends.
In Service to our Community,
Max Philipp
